Happy Labor Day!

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Awesome.

“Teamsters Union 988 is holding the grand opening this weekend for its new union hall, which is expected to feature Teamsters President James P. Hoffa. But it has become a sour moment for other labor leaders because the Teamsters didn’t use union construction workers. They were told by the Teamsters that union contractors cost too much.”

Lets us pause on this gorgeous labor day to bask in the warm glow of union hypocrisy in the face of free market reality…

Policy Skepticism

Exactly

“Mead, who says that he is a skeptic about climate policy rather than climate science…”

This is the best articulation of the position that most of the reasonable skeptics have been trying to articulate since global warming became an issue. It’s not the science that most of us object to, it’s the policy derived from and driving the conclusions to that science.

Another study

“The researchers, led by Dr Amanda Cross of the National Cancer Institute, also found that the biggest carnivores among us were more likely to be non-Hispanic white, current smokers, to have a higher BMI, and to consume more beverages and total energy daily.”

Also they don’t wear seat belts, support the Arizona law, watch Fox news, vote Republican, hate kittens and celebrate Christmas; the white, cow killing jerks.

Absolutely Priceless

Sound familiar?

“Dannehy faulted the Justice Department for firing Iglesias without even bothering to figure out whether complaints about him were true. That indicated ‘an undue sensitivity to politics on the part of DOJ officials who should answer not to partisan politics but to principles of fairness and justice,’ the Justice Department wrote in its letter.”

After two years and who knows how much taxpayer money spent on a witch hunt for criminal wrongdoing in the previous administration, the Obama Justice Department discovers that Bush’s Justice Department was guilty of: exactly what the Obama Agriculture Department just did to Shirley Sherrod. To wit: firing her without first assessing all of the facts and reacting to political pressure rather than what the Obama Justice Department describes as “the principles of fairness and justice.”

Hilarious.

Bigotry?

“We felt the time had come to stand up and say, ‘It’s time for the tea party to be responsible members of this democracy and make sure they don’t tolerate bigots or bigotry among their members,’” NAACP President Ben Jealous said ahead of the debate.

Really? Is the N.A.A.C.P. going to denounce the blatant bigotry of well known black activists such as Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson? Yeah, didn’t think so. There’s no doubt that there are undesirable elements within the Tea Party movement - just as there are undesirable elements within any political organization. Why is it that left wing organizations are never held to a similar standard? Ask ironically named Ben Jealous. Good luck getting a credible answer.

Rights, fairness, entitlement… Yawn.

Nit picking

“The events reported overnight in Connecticut reinforce my belief that passengers have rights and are entitled to fair treatment when they fly,”

I know this is nit picking but why can’t these guys just say “The airlines should not be permitted to trap passengers on an airplane for extended periods. We’re going to do what we can to resolve the issue.” Period. Everything with the Obama administration seems to center around vapid platitudes about rights or fairness. What does it mean to say “passengers have rights and are entitled to fair treatment?” For one thing, if everyone routinely gets trapped on an airplane for 12 hour stretches, that’s fair treatment. It absolutely shouldn’t happen but equality of misery is still equality. Second, passengers aren’t “entitled” to any “rights” when they fly. People should not be imprisoned against their will for extended periods for any reason. That’s not some “right” that you qualify for should you suddenly decide to fly and it’s not something that the government can choose to grant or deny at their pleasure. It’s simple human decency and it applies whether Ray Lahood chooses to recognize it or not.

Too Much Information (running through my brain)!

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

As an astute friend recently pointed out. If this is true,

“And with iPods and iPads; and Xboxes and PlayStations — none of which I know how to work — (laughter) — information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation. So all of this is not only putting pressure on you; it’s putting new pressure on our country and on our democracy.”

where did this come from?

“The Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama showcased his diverse musical taste, ranging from Bob Dylan to Jay-Z and Bruce Springsteen, after revealing the playlist on his iPod.”

Do these people even read their own press releases? Yes, I’ve seen the George Bush revival articles springing up everywhere. Frankly, this administration is so bad I’d buy a shirt with this guy on it:

Miss me yet?

A Big Wheels vs. a Bugatti

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Bill Maher thinks the entire Brazilian economy runs on sugar cane ethanol. Seriously. He said:

“I believe they in the ’70s, they had a program to use sugar cane ethanol. And I believe that is what fuels their country.”

If he had said:

“I believe the planet Earth orbits around a jar of tomatoes known as The Ernest Borgnine.”

he would have been only slightly less correct.

As I’ve pointed out before in this space, Maher is not the sharpest political analyst in the drawer. Putting him at the same round table with George Will is like having Albert Einstein debate the theory of relativity with a Lincoln Log.

Devastating News

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

I regret to inform my readers that something terrible happened yesterday. Tiger Woods cursed on the golf course. Clearly this means he’s not sorry for cheating on his wife. Sorry to let everyone down with this horrible news. Please continue to watch this space for more gripping updates.

Arne Duncan

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

To quickly expand on the previous post, permit me an analogy to illustrate the absurdity of Arne Duncan’s education program: A rich man walks into a homeless shelter with a 20 pound turkey and announces that the homeless person who performs the most amusing trick will be awarded the turkey. The states are so strapped for cash right now, they will do just about anything to make a buck. Enter Arne Duncan and his disgusting bribe. This is not federalism, it’s organized crime.
